A Guide to Using Picasa Web

Picasa is more than a photo sharing site. It is your also your photo organizer. It also lets you edit your photos. To use the offline version, you can use the Picasa application. You can then backup these Picasa photos on Google. This functionality is called the Picasa Web. These photo uploads will also be backed up on Google Photos. You will be given 1 GB of storage space for your photos. Picasa Web is accessed through a website URL. It is usually denoted as your Picasa Web Albums. You can also see the recent uploads from your Google+ profile. To use this application, you would need a Google account.

Your Guide to Using Picasa Web:

  • On your web browser, you should direct yourself to picasaweb.google.com.
  • The Homepage for PicasaWeb Albums will load eventually,
  • You can see that the entire Google feature can be also accessed there.
  • These Features is accessible due to the appearance of the Google Menu bar. (This Google Menu bar is the blackened strip with a list of links).
    • Google+ – This will open your Google+ newsfeed in a new Tab.
    • Search – This will automatically load Google.com in a new Tab so you can search for things.
    • Images – Open this Tab if you wish to search on Google Images.
    • Maps – You can search for directions, nearest restaurants, coffee place, etc on Googe Maps.
    • Play – This will load the Google Play Store in a new Tap. You can then download the latest game or application for your Android device there.
    • Gmail – This will open your Gmail inbox.
    • Drive – Access your Google Drive to upload and share files with other users.
    • Calendar – Access all your saved Calendar events in one place.
    • More – This will contain links for Translate, Books, Blogger, Photos, Docs & Even more Google services.
  • Then comes the other functions of the Web Picasa.
  • These functions – Home, My Photos, Explore and Upload are located next to the Picasa Web Albums icon.
    • Home: You will all your Picasa web albums there. You can click on the Album’s thumbnail to access all your Picasa uploads.
    • My Photos: You can view your Public Gallery and Unlisted Gallery from there.
    • Explore: You can see the latest Popular Tags. You can add those Tags to your uploads.
    • Upload: This function will let you upload photos in a new Picasa album or add to the existing Web Albums.

You can also sign out of your current Picasa account. Simply click on your Profile picture and out pops a menu below. You can also view your Google+ Profile from that Menu. Click on the Gear icon to access your Settings. From Settings, you can also check your remaining storage space.

What is Picasa Web Album? | Features

You can basically edit, organize and upload photos from Picasa. You will need to download and install the Picasa app to edit and organize. These uploads you make will appear in Picasa Web album. Picasa is often compared to other image uploading sites like Flickr and Photobucket. You will need to link Picasa online and the Picasa app for the creation of these web albums. An offline use of the program will let users see your Picasa album online. To start using it, you must sign in to your Google account. You should easily be able to remove or delete photos from your Picasa Web album. Or you can delete one or more image from the album.

Features of the Picasa Web Album:

  1. As a user, you will upload photos from supported web browsers.
  2. Or you can upload from the Picasa desktop application.
  3. For Mac user, you can use Exporter for iPhoto.
  4. Linux users will use the F-Spot to upload images.
  5. Although a smaller resolution will be displayed, your photos will maintain original resolutions.
  6. If you have a private Picasa Web album, it will have unlisted number urls.
    • The album and files will only be searchable by you.
  7. Or you can share those albums to only those you wish to.
  8. A Picasa account is free although to get more storage space, you can be a paid subscriber.
  9. If you have a free account, Ads will be shown when you log in.
  10. You will get free storage space of 1 GB for your Picasa Web Album.
  11. You can upgrade storage with plans available up to 30 TB costing US$299.99 per month.
  12. Although Google has ended its service, users can still use Picasa.
  13. This service however will not be supported by Google.
    • You can use Google Photos instead if you wish.
  14. For users who still prefer Picasa can use picasaweb.google.com.
  15. For use on desktop, you can use the Picasa application.

You would not need to use the desktop application if you wish to use this feature. However, it will help in organizing and editing your photos before uploading. Picasa Web is the online version of Picasa. You can then also find the uploads you made with your Google Account. From your Picasa Web Album, you can also change your name and Profile Pic.
